The term " bandwagon" is used in several different genres. The term means a particular activity or cause that has suddenly become fashionable or popular.
In my walk with Christ, I have seen bandwagon Christianity from the back seat of the Holy Roller bus many times. Whatever popular speaker, speech, sermon, or show is going on at the time then the masses follow. "Christians" can be so fickle and unstable in their faith. Many have a shallow faith and follow what they think is part of the Christian walk instead of following the truth. They are too blind and lazy to see the truth.
Recently, a popular Reality TV personality was booted off his show for saying some controversial statements about homosexuals and blacks. Below is the link to the article in GQ magazine.
This TV star happens to be a "Christian". Not everything he said in the interview was about the before mentioned. However, He did quote scripture from I Corinthians. Below is a clip of what he said in the interview after the journalist Drew Magary asked the following question. " What, in your mind, is sinful?"
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Beastiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
The scripture quote comes from I Corinthians chapter 6.
I Corinthians 6:
I wonder why the TV star started the answer to the question with homosexuality? The scripture he quoted starts off with wicked people (Church Board members, church committee members, deacons and some church sectaries to name a few), then those who commit sexual sins ( Pastors addicted to porn), those who worship false idols ( Many religious people in church today who worship the American Dream more than the living God.), those who commit adultery ( TV preachers who divorce their wives in order to get a new woman.), homosexuals ( this sin is named 5th in the list), thieves ( politicians), greedy ( Word of Faith preachers who change the word of God for their self gain.) drunks, abusive language talkers ( gossipers in the church, what about those Christian who cuss and talk like sailors, and those who have falsely accused innocent people.) and people who rob others ( Pastors who guilt Christians in giving their rent money each week to the multi-million dollar facility. Daddy needs a new Rolls) will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Immediately after this TV star's comments get blasted across every news outlet in the world, the insulted groups mount up and strike back. Then bandwagon Christians ride to the rescue and start the charge for Christian persecution as if it is a badge of honor to wear. Many people who signed the petitions in favor of the TV Star are not even real Christians. They are part of the bandwagon or Americanized Christians that are in the world today. The TV star starts off with Homosexuality because he is like many Christians. He is afraid of his own sexuality , and he has ignorantly highlighted one sin over another. The sloppy, slobbery lips among the bandwagoniers followed suit. They did not stand up for Christ but for the American Christian idealism. ( Freedom of Speech and all that Jazz) What does our God really think about it all? ( Please understand I love being an American but I am a Christian First and American second.)
The Christian TV star talks like a sailor and says things outside of the realm of Christian speech. Many bandwagon Christians swept his coarse language under the rug because the American Christian idealism was being insulted. " Quick Grannie go get your gun! Them are fight'in words." How ignorant can we be?
Now don't get me wrong. I wholeheartedly agree and support I Corinthians chapter 6, but homosexuality is not the only sin listed here. It is not the only sin wrecking our societies around the world. All the other sins listed are just as bad and probably more rapid in the world. Many of those sins listed are in our churches and home groups. It is interesting to note that Jesus did not once point out homosexuality as the only sin we should focus on or watch out for. He did not even mention homosexuality actually. However, he talked alot about the sin of religiousness and religious people. ( Bandwagon Christians.) He named religiousness the worse sin of all. Their is a whole chapter in the book of Matthew ( Chapter 23) that tells us to WOE and not be like the religious minded. HMMMMM! Right turn Clyde!
Is homosexuality a sin? Of course it is. There is at least seven different passages found in scripture stating it as a sin. God's word cannot be more clearer. Jesus did not mention it in the gospels but the practice was rapid during his day. Hello, the Roman bath houses were spread out all around the landscape during that time and some sinful things happened at those places. Jesus did mention marriage and what it consisted of. It is between a man and woman and marriage is considered holy when followed accordingly to God's word. This is not bigotry speech this is straight from the word of God. However, there is more to the Story.....
The point is that homosexuality is not the only sin we should be focusing on or singling out. This is what ignorant, satan led, bandwagon Christians do. This is what the Pharisees did and Jesus called them out on the carpet for it. We are called to live our lives righteously and to serve the Lord with purity. We are called to preach the fullness of his message not pick and choose which parts of scripture we want to emphasize. This is what the world does. We are better than this! Get off the bandwagon and walk righteously with the Lord.
The Church needs to repent. We are not suffering with Christ because we stand up for an human ideal. Jesus suffered because of his message of truth. HIS MESSAGE! The complete package! If you are living righteously, with purity, strive to be at peace with all men, show the heart beat of Christ, and share the complete message of Christ then get persecuted, then you are truly following Christ. It is clear that Jesus' actions brought him more persecution than just his words.
