The Enemies to God part 1 " Arrogant eyes"

Proverbs 6:16-19  There are six things that the LORD hates, even seven that are disgusting to him:  (17)  arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill innocent people,  (18)  a mind devising wicked plans, feet that are quick to do wrong,  (19)  a dishonest witness spitting out lies, and a person who spreads conflict among relatives.
Scripture is clear that God loves all of mankind but He hates or despises the sin in mankind. It is not His original purpose for us. There are certain sins and actions that God calls an abomination or disgusting to His nature.  They are Arrogant eyes or Pride, a lying tongue, hands that kill innocent people or murderer, a mind devising wicked plans or a person of mischief, feet that are quick to do wrong or someone who actively seeks or runs after sin, a dishonest witness or gossip, and a person who spreads conflict among relatives or trouble maker.

God obviously hates all sin but what makes these 7 so special?  I believe they are door way sins for others to enter through. Each one leads to more extravagant sins and causes greater bondage to the sinner. I would like to look at each one closely and hopefully shed some light on these enemies of God. For if they are enemies to God and at least one of them is living in me and through me, then I am an enemy to God. What do you think?

Arrogant eyes (Pride)

Being arrogant means having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance. ( definition take from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/arrogant)

In today's world we see this enemy of God more prevalent than ever. Many dictators, presidents, leaders, and people in general but more value on their lives. Think about the current sex trafficking issues around the world. It is a billion dollar black market industry and growing. Many women, and children are abused and sexually exploited all in the name of self preservation. Some sick-in-the-head man puts his selfish desires above the life of innocents.( http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/publications/law-enforcement-bulletin/march_2011/human_sex_trafficking)  I could see why God calls Pride an enemy to Him. Arrogance is a door way sin that paves the way for many more.

The bible says that Pride or arrogance brings many to their knees. Proverbs 16:18  Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. I think about the son of King David in the Bible. Absalom was his name and at one point he was considered the handsomeness guy throughout the whole kingdom. However,  after all what his father would do for him;  He would one day gather support for himself to hopefully one day seize the throne of David. This made him think he was better or smarter than his own father. His prideful actions opened him up to greed and more selfishness.  His arrogance grew each and every day until it one day killed him.

2 Samuel 18:8-18  The fighting spread over the whole country. That day the woods devoured more people than the battle.  (9)  Absalom happened to come face to face with some of David's men. He was riding on a mule, and the mule went under the tangled branches of a large tree. Absalom's head became caught in the tree. So he was left hanging in midair when the mule that was under him ran away.  (10)  A man who saw this told Joab, "I saw Absalom hanging in a tree."  (11)  "What! You saw that!" Joab said to the man who told him. "Why didn't you strike him to the ground? Then I would have felt obligated to give you four ounces of silver and a belt."  (12)  But the man told Joab, "Even if I felt the weight of 25 pounds of silver in my hand, I wouldn't raise my hand against the king's son. We heard the order the king gave you, Abishai, and Ittai: 'Protect the young man Absalom for my sake.'  (13)  If I had done something treacherous to him, would you have stood by me? Like everything else, it wouldn't stay hidden from the king."  (14)  Then Joab said, "I shouldn't waste time with you like this." He took three sharp sticks and plunged them into Absalom's heart while he was still alive in the tree.  (15)  Then ten of Joab's armorbearers surrounded Absalom, attacked him, and killed him.(16)  Joab blew the ram's horn to stop their fighting, and the troops returned from pursuing Israel.  (17)  They took Absalom, threw him into a huge pit in the forest, and piled a large heap of stones over him. Meanwhile, all Israel fled and went back to their homes.  (18)  (While he was still living, Absalom had taken a rock and set it up for himself in the king's valley. He said, "I have no son to keep the memory of my name alive." He called the rock by his name, and it is still called Absalom's Monument today.)

Absalom built and altar to himself by building up a heap of stones while he was living. After he was killed, he was thrown into a pit and heaps of stones thrown on top of his dead body.  Pride truly brings you to a horrible place Arrogance is never the reality of us. What did Absalom's pride bring him?

Absalom's pride

1. Brought him delusions of grandeur.
2. Gave him the ability to lie and manipulate others for his benefit.
3. Brought him face to face with the heart of rebellion.
4. His pride created a civil war with his family and with Israel.
5. Gave him the ability to devise evil plans against his father and others.
6. Gave him a path to revenge
7. Allowed him to disgrace father by sleeping with his concubines.

How much arrogance is in the world today? In families? In the church? Sons rebel against their parents because of pride. Daughters seek the wrong kind of guy due to pride and in turn rebel. Congregation members are mean, haughty, gossipers  and revilers because of the pride within them. The world mentality is " I do what I want." It is all pride, and it will one day fall. Many will be like Absalom and crushed by their own self-made idols. So how can we over come pride?

Overcoming the enemy of God called Arrogant Eyes or Pride:

1. Fear the Lord or realize that He is the ultimate greatness and truth for all of mankind.  Pro_15:33  The fear of the LORD is discipline leading to wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
2. Search for the heart of humility by your relationship with Jesus. Zep_2:3  Search for the LORD, all you humble people in the land who carry out his justice. Search for what is right. Search for humility. Maybe you will find shelter on the day of the LORD'S anger.
3. Live in God's wisdom not your own.
4. Don't think of yourself so highly than others.
5. Surrender completely to the will of God.
6. See others through the eyes of God.

It is important to be careful with arrogant eyes. It will lead us to destruction if we let it.
