(1) After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John (the brother of James) and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone.
(2) Jesus' appearance changed in front of them. His face became as bright as the sun and his clothes as white as light.
(3) Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them and were talking with Jesus.
(4) Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it's good that we're here. If you want, I'll put up three tents here-one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
(5) He was still speaking when a bright cloud overshadowed them. Then a voice came out of the cloud and said, "This is my Son, whom I love and with whom I am pleased. Listen to him!"
(6) The disciples were terrified when they heard this and fell facedown on the ground.
(7) But Jesus touched them and said, "Get up, and don't be afraid!"
(8) As they raised their heads, they saw no one but Jesus.
The Disciples walked around with Jesus and thought they really knew who he was. They seen him do miracles and bring healing to others. He spoke words that were out of this world and authoritative. Jesus often told his disciples John_6:46 I'm saying that no one has seen the Father. Only the one who is from God has seen the Father. and John_5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of Himself but what He sees the Father do. For whatever things He does, these also the Son does likewise.
When Jesus walked the earth; he only showed his earthly appearance. The true appearance of Jesus is beyond what anyone of us could ever dream of. His glory is brighter than the Sun and greater than a super nova. His majesty goes beyond the heavens and the known universe. His transfiguration meant He changed into His actual form before these three disciples. He showed them a true form of His brilliance. It was just another confirmation of who He was and is. Perhaps , the Apostle John recounts his experience on this mountain when writing the first sentences of the book of Revelation. He describes Jesus in majestic detail.
Moses and Elijah stood before Jesus during this mountain experience. The disciples were oblivious of their purpose. Moses, giver of the Law and Elijah representing the words of the prophets simply laid everything on Jesus. They declared that Jesus fulfilled the Law and the words of the Seerts. They gave greater credence to Jesus' claims to the Godhead.
It is interesting to note which disciples Jesus brought with Him on this day of revelation. He brought Peter the Rock. He brought James the Passionate, and He brought John the one filled with God's love. They would testify in the future what they saw. Jesus was speaking something to us all. His truth is firmly planted on the Solid Rock. His passion carried Him to the cross for all of mankind and His love spans beyond human comprehension. Our lives should rest upon the rock. Our story should be filled with His passion for mankind, and our love should be His love.
True to human nature, the disciples tried to contain what they saw. They wanted to build tabernacles for the three figures. Perhaps, they thought many would come from all around to see this great event. If Judas has been there; he probably would have saw dollar signs floating over their heads. We can not contain the uncontainable. His glory would burn through it. This experience reveals to us the true intent of our Lord. Jesus, being God, came to us and laid down His human existence for us. He showed His real appearance to the disciples that day and to us many years later. He revealed His power and might. He could have jumped off of the cross. He could have stopped the evil men who came against Him, but He chose not to. His love for us was too great than the sustaining of His own life.
I have literally been studying this passage of scripture all week. Each day I would read it and something unique is revealed to me. I sense the Lord teaching me , and you something remarkable through these scriptures. Allow Holy Spirit to reveal His truth to you. You know about the human Jesus but do you know about the transfigured Jesus? Have you experience the power and love of the transfigured Jesus? He sits on the right hand side of the Father and all of His glory fills the heavenly temple. We don't serve a dead God. We serve a living God!!!! We should rejoice and rethink our present condition. Stop living a defeated life! Stop allow Sin to control your thoughts! Stop living in the past! Rise up and come to the transfigured Jesus! Allow His glory to consume you and change your life forever. As for me, I am running deeper into the arms of the transfigured Jesus. Here I come Jesus! I surrender my everything to you for nothing else matters. Every human experience is just temporary and finite. I rather put my trust in the infinite Christ who is transfiguring my spirit and soul.
