Death Revealed

Here's a subject many are afraid to tackle. DEATH. Death is such a great unknown many steer away from it's clear presence. As believers, we actually have the Lois Lane scoop on the whole subject! Death is not the finish but the graduation. It is not the completion but the beginning of a new project. We can have a greater understanding of this topic by simply referring to the word of God.

When you are young the subject of death is far from your everyday vocabulary. Along with being young comes the ignorance of philosophical truth. Maybe that is why when we think of philosophers; we see them as old grayed haired men who wear tunics and one hand is stretched up in the air while spilling words of deep thought.

Romans 5:12-17  Sin came into the world through one person, and death came through sin. So death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned.  (13)  Sin was in the world before there were any laws. But no record of sin can be kept when there are no laws.  (14)  Yet, death ruled from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin in the same way Adam did when he disobeyed. Adam is an image of the one who would come.  (15)  There is no comparison between God's gift and Adam's failure. If humanity died as the result of one person's failure, it is certainly true that God's kindness and the gift given through the kindness of one person, Jesus Christ, have been showered on humanity.  (16)  There is also no comparison between God's gift and the one who sinned. The verdict which followed one person's failure condemned everyone. But, even after many failures, the gift brought God's approval.  (17)  It is certain that death ruled because of one person's failure. It's even more certain that those who receive God's overflowing kindness and the gift of his approval will rule in life because of one person, Jesus Christ.

Sin came into the world through one person and death came through sin. Just think while mankind was following after the heart of God there was no such thing as death. Death is an invention from sin. It is a by-product from Sin's destructive path.  Here is the kicker DEATH use to rule this world but through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ Death no longer rules us. Death was defeated on the Cross and through the resurrected grave! Jesus took death to the cross and beat the snot out of it!. Death can't exist unless a sinful life is sucking in oxygen. That is why we must die a spiritual death but that is another subject all together.

1 Corinthians 15:47-58  The first man was made from the dust of the earth. He came from the earth. The second man came from heaven.  (48)  The people on earth are like the man who was made from the dust of the earth. The people in heaven are like the man who came from heaven.  (49)  As we have worn the likeness of the man who was made from the dust of the earth, we will also wear the likeness of the man who came from heaven.  (50)  Brothers and sisters, this is what I mean: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. What decays cannot inherit what doesn't decay.  (51)  I'm telling you a mystery. Not all of us will die, but we will all be changed.  (52)  It will happen in an instant, in a split second at the sound of the last trumpet. Indeed, that trumpet will sound, and then the dead will come back to life. They will be changed so that they can live forever.  (53)  This body that decays must be changed into a body that cannot decay. This mortal body must be changed into a body that will live forever.  (54)  When this body that decays is changed into a body that cannot decay, and this mortal body is changed into a body that will live forever, then the teaching of Scripture will come true: "Death is turned into victory!  (55)  Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?"  (56)  Sin gives death its sting, and God's standards give sin its power.  (57)  Thank God that he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  (58)  So, then, brothers and sisters, don't let anyone move you off the foundation of your faith. Always excel in the work you do for the Lord. You know that the hard work you do for the Lord is not pointless.

Do we understand Death at all? As believers we are over comers  and death no longer has control over us. Now does that mean we will not die? That is exactly what I mean! But you are thinking about my physical body aren't you? Not even my physical body dies! What? You are asking? Are you confused yet? To those who see without the eyes of Christ see death in the body but the bible says in I Corinthians 15:42 that the body is planted. Planted for what? For the believer it is planted in order to reap something greater. This body might go into the earth but it is not dead. It is germinating. It is awaiting for something greater to appear. The Spirit lives on and awaits the time when it will be reunited with the body. This is the truth behind the Resurrection of Jesus. His body was not dead from the brutality on the cross; it was planted in the tomb until the appointed day of reaping. On the third day, the time of reaping came! There is a time of reaping coming for all of us! Whoa whooooo!  I am not saying we are a mythological people from Glorantha and we are plant people. What I am saying is that believers need not fear death or become overwhelmed by it's mysterious ways. We have a greater hope. Lets look at some thoughts about the subject.

Truth about life, spirit and death

1. The first Adam brought the world a living body.
2. The Second Adam ( Jesus) brought a spirit giving body
3. In the stage of life the body must be planted at the appointed time in order for the Spirit to resurrect it anew and turn it into a Spiritual Body.
4. Jesus came to unite the heavenly with the earthly. Our bodies will morph into something new at the appointed time. It will be something the Angels have never seen before and something earthlings have never seen before.
5. The Body must be planted in order to be resurrected and so it can exist before the Living God. The non-eternal can not coincide with the eternal. The Body has to be changed from a finite form to a infinite form. Our body has to die or planted into the earth. Dust we came and Dust we return  to take on the heavenly form of Jesus. We follow Him into his resurrection.
6. Death no longer has a sting. It can no longer control us. We over power it through Christ. Death in the natural is never the final result. As believers we have victory regardless. Whether we leave our body for a season or when we return to it. We have the total victory!

Paul the Apostle gave us encouragement and a great reminder. Live our life to please the Lord! Live our life to benefit others and never look behind you to see if death is about to catch up. This body will one day be laid down to sleep. It will begin to decay and rot( signs of life and it has to go back to dust again because God is going to recreate us through the dust again) until the appointed time when the Living Christ calls for my spirit and body to be reunited. Then what was planted in the soil will be reaped into something glorious. Heaven and Earth has never seen this new form of body outside of the existence of Jesus. We are unique to the angels and will be unique to the people of the earth. This is the promise of the Lord. We need not worry about death. We need not mourn for believers who have gone before us.

Let me get a little more philosophical. Do you know how when people die we say things like " They are waiting for us up in heaven or they are looking down from heaven on us." These statements are made from corporeal beings. Corporeal beings still live in the realm of time. Time influences our thoughts about things which exists outside of time. When a believer dies he or she steps out from a world of chronos( time) and enters into a world of ainios ( eternity). Therefore, when he or she appears in heaven we are right behind them. Henceforth, if subject A dies on Monday of next week and subject B dies 30 years later than subject A. They both arrive in heaven at the same point in non-time. This is why the saints before us did not worry about death. They understood what it actually meant. We can regain the ancient truth for our lives today.  If someone is dying of cancer and is only given two months to live; it does not mean their days are more numbered than a person who is in greater health. The moment we breathe our first breathe in this finite world; we all are on borrowed time. We could die at day 1 or at day 25,000 ( average life span of 73 X 365 days) Each day is a gift and special. Each day we awake is another day we get to have. We are blessed to have a day and hopefully 25,000 days or more. When we understand this perspective then we understand the need to live each day with promise and without compromise. We should seize each day with all that is within us. We should mend broken relationships. We should forgive and move on. We should let go and let God. We should strive to live holy lives without the prowling of sin on our backs. We can live free from the fear of death but understand the cost of life. Don't let your life be consumed with petty differences and corporeal collisions from the human physique. Walk in the freedom of the Lord and know he is forever our God. Remember Death has no sting! And we are the true victors!!!!
