Having His Love within you

Matthew 5:44-48  But I tell you this: Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.  (45)  In this way you show that you are children of your Father in heaven. He makes his sun rise on people whether they are good or evil. He lets rain fall on them whether they are just or unjust.  (46)  If you love those who love you, do you deserve a reward? Even the tax collectors do that!  (47)  Are you doing anything remarkable if you welcome only your friends? Everyone does that!  (48)  That is why you must be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect.

October 2, 2006, A gunman walks into an Amish school and begins to shoot his gun at the people in the school. The gunman shot 10 girls, killing five and then killing himself with the gun. No one could imagine getting over such a horrible event. Let alone forgiving the evil man who caused so much pain and grief.

What happened next shocked many in the community and tugged at the hearts of many around the world.  The Amish community, including those who lost their children, publicly forgave the gunman and showed love to his family. The Amish families showed up to the funeral of the killer just a day after going to the funerals of their own children. They hugged the window and the killers family. Many in the community, to their own ignorance, thought it was too quick for the Amish to get over the hurt. They thought they were phony or being emotionless about the loss of their children.

What many in the community did not know or understand is the true love of Christ. When Christ's love is truly in you one can tell others that they love them and mean it. When His love is in you ; it will come out regardless of the pain that has been personally caused to you. This is what Jesus was talking about in the passage of scripture written above. It is easy to love those that are your friends or who agree with you but the true test of being a believer is loving those who have hurt you or treat you wrong.  It does not make you phony. It does not mean that you let the person off the hook. It means that the reflection of Christ is shining through you. It means that you have become less of yourself and more like Jesus. It means that you have let yourself off the hook. Off the hook from bitterness and unforgiveness, off the hook from pain and sorrow, off the hook from uncertainty and recklessness, and off the hook from personal vengeance.

Jesus was clear and commanded us to LOVE our enemies and pray for them. Who would be our enemies? Our enemies would be those who talk bad about us. They would be the ones who despitefully use us or try to harm us all because of our faith.  You and I are believers, and we should have his love beaming within us and burst outside of us. It should come natural and does not have to be stirred up.  Let the love of Christ flow through you today.

blessings,

Johnny
